A Christmas Miracle
Rev. Michael McKinley 1/16/14
Eternal unending thanks is the only thing I can say that properly expresses my appreciation for what God has done over this Christmas Holiday. After witnessing His grace and love manifested to thousands of children who would not have had a Christmas at all if not for the dedication, self-sacrifice and faithful work of those who came to put their shoulders to the wheel in order to bring smiles to the faces of small children, what can we say but thanks.
I will attempt to share this story as briefly as I can. It started with a prayer and a desire to be used by God. A prayer by one who I believe is chosen by God to go all the way. My Dad used to quote a scripture which says “if you put your hand to the plow and draw back you are not worthy to be my disciple”, meaning that the work of the Lord requires a tenacity that will not quit. After circling in prayer with a group of teenagers down the hall from where this miracle happened I remember thinking "I can’t wait to write about this one."
Being lead to pray for one of my young volunteers early that morning in a specific way and sharing the word of the Lord I saw an unusual manifestation of the Spirit of the Lord on her. After receiving from the Lord a fresh anointing she shared with me how she had been told by the Lord that today she would see the laying on of hands in operation. Her hands began to become hot while we Prayed and discussed this phenomenon. We went on to the business of the day which was the Toys for Tots deliveries to needy children in the Philadelphia area. Along with a large number of volunteers including Pastors, and laymen, recovering addicts and active addicts, family members and new friends who we had never met before, all working hand in hand to accomplish the goal of getting out over ten thousand toys to kids who would have no toys at all if not for this effort. We had been at it for weeks and were down to the last request of the day.
This order of toys had been prepared the day before, then misplaced, left off the truck, then taken by the wrong group, so it had to be reconstructed. We were told by the marines that this grandmother of 11 children was disabled and in the greatest need, so we were committed to getting this delivery done at any cost. After calling all day with no answer, losing the paper work, searching the building, knocking on doors and questioning neighbors we called Gunnery Sergeant Putney to tell him of our difficulty in making this last delivery. To which he responded “We did all we can do. Go home and enjoy your families.”
But how many of you know that God some times requires that extra effort. So led by the Spirit we made a couple of personal stops and continued to call until we finally got a busy signal. Encourage by this we made up our minds that we would not give up till we made this delivery. By now it is about 8:00 p.m. Christmas Eve and the stores were closing and all hope of spending time with our families was gone. In side I knew that God wanted to do something for this woman, more than just toys for her grandchildren. When Valerie finally answered the phone we were able to get to her apartment.
When we got to her home there was a hospital bed, wheel chair and several walkers in her bed room. It took along time for her to get to the door since she clearly was in pain and barely mobile. As we made our delivery we began to talk with her. We leaned that she had three crushed disc in the vertebra of her back, and rheumatism in her hands. She was taking a dozen pills or more two or three times a day. After an interview and asking if we could pray for her. We proceeded into a deliverance followed by a prayer of forgiveness and finally the laying on of hands in the name of Jesus. The result of which was that as the power of God came on Valerie she began to jump up and down praising and glorifying God. After walking around the room and further prayer and instruction she began to do jumping jacks and touch her toes. She stood before us totally healed buy the Power of God through the mighty Name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth. There have been many other miracles this season but this one stands out to me as the most remarkable because it reminds me that God honors sacrifice and persistence. To God be the Glory for Great things He has done!
Pray this prayer to receive Jesus Christ into your life.
Come into my heart Lord Jesus. I believe that you are The Son of God and that you died for my sins on a Roman cross and were raised from the dead on the third day and ascended back to heaven
I receive you now into my heart to be savior and lord of my life.
Thank you lord , Amen
